A call by a group of sixty prominent Americans to reopen the investigations of four assassinations in the 1960s has a special resonance today, at a time of legitimately heightened skepticism about "official" pronouncements coming from government agencies, especially those tied to military and intelligence networks. The group, which calls itself a "Truth and Reconciliation Committee", has proposed setting up an oversight capability for the release of all documents related to the Kennedy assassination and presidency, as well as a public inquest into the other three assassinations in that tumultuous decade, of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Sen. Robert Kennedy. Members of the group include Isaac Newton Farris, Jr., a nephew of Dr. King; Rev. James A. Lawson, a close associate of King; Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, two children of Robert Kennedy; Daniel Ellsberg, whose release of the "Pentagon Papers" exposed the lies behind the build-up of the Vietnam War; filmmaker Oliver Stone; and historians, journalists, and experts who have investigated the assassinations.
Their call was released on the day commemorating the birth of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King. Written by Adam Walinsky, a former speechwriter and leading aide of Senator Robert Kennedy, the statement opens by saying,
"Four major political murders traumatized American life in the 1960s and cast a shadow over the country for decades thereafter. John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy were each in their own unique way attempting to turn the United States away from war toward disarmament and peace, away from domestic violence and division toward civil amity and justice. Their killings were together a savage, concerted assault on American democracy and the tragic consequences of these assassinations still haunt our nation."
To fulfill their commitment to "reinvestigate" the assassinations, they intend to push either Congress or the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reopen the investigations, to protect documentary evidence, to declassify documents, and to hold inquests, to provide an opportunity for witnesses and experts who dispute the "official" explanations to have a public hearing on these events. Polls repeatedly show that the majority of Americans do not believe the official stories about a string of "lone" assassins who have been identified as responsible for the killings.
In what may be surprising to those dependent on the anti-Trump media in transatlantic countries, there is a direct, common thread between those who carried out the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, and the coverups which followed, and the networks directing the regime change coup ongoing against President Donald Trump. That thread has been revealed in the three-part series by Barbara Boyd, which documents the role of British military and intelligence operatives who have been running the coup effort against Trump from the beginning. As Boyd reveals, in great detail, the fear driving the high-level British operations against Trump is that if he is not stopped, the British-U.S. "special relationship", which has dominated global strategic relations since the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, will be destroyed. His stated desire to cooperate with Russia and China, rather than prepare for war against them, has already destabilized the neocons and neo-liberal ideologues, with their fantasies of keeping Russia and China subordinated to the "unilateral Empire" run by the Brits, backed by U.S. military force.
The fear of "losing control" and having to give up the dreams of empire is what led to the launching of Russiagate, and its fraudulent claim that Russian President Putin rigged the election for Trump, and Trump "colluded" with Putin, and is now functioning as a de facto Russian agent! When Trump called for declassifying numerous documents which would demonstrate the corruption of the DOJ and FBI in launching Russiagate—much of it related to the "dirty dossier" compiled by top "former" MI6 agent Christopher Steele—it was the British and their "Five Eyes" intelligence subordinate, Australia, which begged Trump to hold off, for "national security" reasons.
As the call for reopening the 1960s assassinations makes clear, even though it is not explicitly stated, true "national security" depends on full exposure of the dirty operations run by this British network, and their American collaborators.
THE COMMON THREAD
While most "authoritative" accounts of post World War II strategic relations present Great Britain as little more than a quaint monarchy, with much pomp and circumstance to cover up for its imperial demise, Lyndon LaRouche insisted that this view deliberately ignores the real history of relations between the Brits and their former colony, whose loss they still lament. Under his direction, researchers fleshed out this true history. One such work was a pamphlet produced by LaRouche's New Federalist newspaper, issued in December 1994, titled "Why the British Kill American Presidents." In this pamphlet, historian Anton Chaitkin shows that not only Kennedy, but Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield and William McKinley were killed by British operations.
"American Presidents who have been assassinated, were advancing U.S. interests in fierce conflict with British geopolitical aims. In each case, the killing, and accession to office of the Vice President, hindered or reversed the policy direction of the murdered President."
At the core of the "fierce conflict", as Chaitkin shows, are principles which are still being fought out today: for example, the battle between the imperial "free trade" model, with its colonial or neo-colonial suppression of economic development for much of the world, versus a commitment to decolonialization backed by the American leaders, who favored fair trade which would allow the development of manufacturing of formerly colonial nations; and the use of assassination, terrorism, war, tribalism, divide-and-conquer tactics, to keep the world safe for the empire.
The Truth and Reconciliation Committee touch on this in the case of the four leaders assassinated in the 1960s. They point out that JFK was moving to end the Cold War, and had a plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Vietnam. They note that Kennedy continued to move in this direction, in spite of bitter opposition from within his own cabinet and advisers, especially from his military and intelligence officials. Though they do not identify the British role, there are studies which do, notably Donald Gibson's "Battling Wall Street: The Kennedy Presidency." Gibson provides ample documentation of the fight against Kennedy's economic policies coming from Wall Street networks—which he explicitly identifies as working closely with City of London—which vehemently opposed Kennedy's commitment to a role for government in directing investment toward productive enterprises, as part of his goal of a full decolonization effort globally. In addition to a thorough review of Kennedy's efforts to break out of the Cold War geometry, and his revival of the anti-Depression economic approach of FDR, he provides a useful review of the launching of the environmentalist movement, in opposition to Kennedy's commitment to improving productivity through advances in science and technology. As readers of LaRouche publications know, the so-called Green movement was launched by the British Empire, with the aim of drastically reducing human population.
A quick review of the hysterical reaction against Trump, when he announced the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Syria and half of the forces in Afghanistan, provides a clear parallel to the opposition Kennedy faced, from his military and intelligence advisers, when he was deciding to withdraw from Vietnam. After he was murdered, his successor, Lyndon Johnson, increased troop levels there to more than 500,000, giving Kennedy's opponents in the defense and security establishment—whom Eisenhower had warned against, as the "Military Industrial Complex"—exactly what they wanted. It is noteworthy that Trump's decision to withdraw troops came only after he had removed the three generals in his administration, McMaster, Kelly and Mattis, who were supported by neocons in both parties, and advised him to remain engaged in permanent warfare in the Middle East. In particular, the criticism leveled against Trump by Mattis on his way out the door was highlighted by the President's enemies among major media, and Mattis, a notorious advocate of extreme violence in conducting war, was praised by formerly "anti-war" Democrats, in a naked display of hypocrisy.
WHY THIS "REINVESTIGATION" IS URGENT
A piece by Seymour Hersh in the London Review of Books on January 24, provides a fascinating piece to this picture of coups, cover-ups and assassinations, conducted by networks within governments operating outside of official channels. Hersh, a premiere investigative journalist, offers the definitive story of rogue operations in his "The Vice President's Men", which exposes how George Herbert Walker Bush ran a "secret team" for "covert operations", largely targeting perceived Soviet expansion. This team, Hersh reports, "bypassed the national security establishment—including the CIA—and wasn't answerable to Congressional oversight." Hersh reports that the Bush crew saw President Reagan as a "dimwit", who was described by one of them as "lazy, just lazy," justifying their decision to launch wars and dirty operations behind his back. In describing Bush's role in the Iran-Contra scandal, Hersh makes two salient points: that Bush was running a "secret war", and that much of the evidence of this "remains highly classified...if any records still exist." This latter point makes clear why the call for full declassification of documentary evidence from the assassinations in the 1960s and Russiagate, as well as for the LaRouche case, Iran-Contra, and the cover-up of the Saudi role in the 9/11 terror attacks on the U.S. (and Robert Mueller's role in both the LaRouche case and as FBI Director in protecting Saudi terror networks), is so timely and significant.
Putting together the Hersh piece—the details of which are beyond the scope of this article—with the Truth and Reconciliation Committee call, and the dossier compiled on British subversion and the coup drive against Trump by Barbara Boyd, provides a solid basis for freeing mankind from this murderous cabal. It is time, in fact it is overdue, for a process of declassification to lead to a total break with the imperial system, whose leaders will try to protect with every possible means, including new wars and assassinations. The courage demonstrated by Donald Trump in standing up against this network must now enable him, and his supporters, to shift into a process of full exposure of the crimes of the British Empire and their American flunkeys, such as Barack Obama, John Brennan, Clapper, etc.
Only through such a cleansing, by revealing truths, can a true reconciliation occur.
